This November, Engine Room debuted a brand new look at career fairs held at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic.

Conceptualised with input from engineering students across all tertiary levels, the updated Engine Room sports a more vibrant aesthetic (you won’t miss us!) and new content that will address the questions most commonly asked about the industry.

From a mural of Singapore engineering innovations and a quote wall featuring local engineers to a crossword puzzle debunking common misconceptions, the new Engine Room has been designed to offer a meaningful perspective of what it’s actually like to work in engineering.

The new content provided many rich pointers for discussion, with students eager to share their thoughts on joining the industry. Here’s what the students at NYP have to say:

“Engineering is fun! Even though it can be rather challenging at times, the knowledge that I’ve gained is worth it. It’s interesting to see how engineering has impacted the way we live; from TVs and tablets to smart buildings and fast cars.” – Muhammad Amirularif Bin Mohammad Abdullah, Diploma in Electrical Engineering with Eco-Design

“If you think that engineering is meant for individuals who are good at math, it’s not! Engineering is very hands-on. You have the opportunity to work with your hands; designing electrical systems, building robots and even working with microchips!” – Nur Amirah llyana Binte Johari, Diploma in Electrical Engineering with Eco-Design

“I’m excited about the different routes that are available in engineering. Considering my skill sets and interests, I like that engineering will allow me to choose a path that I find meaning in.” – Brandon Tan, Diploma in Biomedical Engineering

“I think it takes passion and drive to be in engineering. I like what I’m learning so far and I enjoy hands-on experiences, so I’m looking forward to a career in the industry!” – Jerrold Yeong, Diploma in Biomedical Engineering

“Engineering is about solving problems that haven’t been solved, and being at the forefront of new technologies gives you a competitive edge over others.” – Melvin Goh, Diploma in Aeronautical and Aerospace Technology
